The Aeon
Untitled, 2022 – glazed ceramic tile
Much like the ritual of pulling cards for a tarot reading, The Aeon became a ritual of drawing, collaging, & scratching in the same glyph of a figure over and over again; a figure standing in the rain with its feet in the fire. The figure is bringing forward a new mutated utopia, and these drawings evolved into other beings from this new utopia.
The Aeon is the 20th trump card in the Thoth Tarot. Historically, this card has been known as The Angel, or The Last Judgement. When Aleister Crowley developed the Thoth deck, he renamed and redesigned this card as The Aeon, humouring the nature of the card – rebirth. To draw the card ‘The Aeon’ in a tarot reading is to ask yourself are you ready, are you finished? And what is readiness? “In order to ascend, you must internalise and become light”. Readiness appears to come after letting go. To let your heart become light – “Is your heart as light as a feather, are you loving?” – you must let go, and when you let go, you can be reborn.
